About This Type:

Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids offer some of the most flexible, adaptable, and powerful technology available. Custom earmolds are designed to fit your outer ear and ear canal comfortably for all-day wear, while open-canal earpieces help reduce the “plugged up” sensation that some users experience.

BTE devices house both the speaker and microphone inside a small case that rests on the ear, with sound delivered into the ear canal through acoustic tubing. They are among the easiest hearing aids to adjust, often featuring simple controls to manage volume and program settings as your listening environment changes. Many models are also available in compact, miniature designs for an even more discreet look.
